Wrong-Way Driver Arrested After Almost Hitting Two Police Vehicles

Police arrested a Long Island man after he allegedly drove the wrong way on Route 109 in West Babylon.

Miguel Caban, 57, of Brentwood, was driving his 1999 Ford pickup westbound in the eastbound lanes of Route 109, around 7:25 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, forcing two police vehicles, to take evasive action to avoid a head-on collision, said the Suffolk County Police.

The officers turned around and initiated a traffic stop and arrested Caban.

Caban was charged with reckless driving and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was also issued several summonses for traffic infractions.

He was held overnight and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, Oct. 24.
